Here’s an event where we were brought in to provide lighting and effects for the Columbia Museum of Art 2017 Gala, A Night in Wonderland, a whimsical, black-tie affair to celebrate and support the arts, on Saturday, April 1. The museum’s largest fundraiser of the year showcased the major spring exhibition, Salvador Dalí’s Fantastical Fairy Tales, in an evening filled with the enchanting cuisine, décor, and entertainment.

The lighting effects were as follows:

  • PLAZA & ENTRANCE:
    Uplighting on trees along entrance path (green)
    Uplighting for clock entrance
  • QUEEN OF HEARTS LOUNGE/LOBBY:
    Gel existing can lights in lobby (pink)
    Aim existing track spotlights onto dueling pianos (light amber)
    Aim existing track spotlights onto florals on left and right side of bar-top Queen of Hearts Bar
    Aim existing track spotlights onto large floral display on food table
    Aim existing track spotlights onto Red Shoe sculpture on stairs (corner plateau)
    Uplighting on back drop of Queen of Hearts Bar (color TBD)
    Uplighting on 4 columns at Queen of Hearts Bar
  • ALICE’S TEA PARTY/GARDEN TERRACE:
    Uplighting on cherry trees surrounding center columns (light blue)
    Aim existing track spotlights onto florals on left and right side of bar-top
    Fairy lights for lanterns (lanterns provided by CMA)
    Balance existing overhead cafe string lights for best ambiance
  • CATERPILLAR’S DESERT LOUNGE/ORIENTATION ROOM:
    Uplighting for fabric panels against black drape, slow color scroll – purple, pink, gold, blue (fabric
    and drape provided by CMA)
  • ATRIUM:
    Uplighting on glass block wall (behind wall, blue, green, turquoise)
    Uplighting on small glass block wall behind Ugly Duckling Taco Station (behind wall, amber)
    Aim existing track spotlight onto “man in the moon” display behind Sandman Bar
  • RABBIT HOLE/GALLERIES
    16 Uplighting for walls leading to expansion space (controller, color scroll and chase)
    6 Pattern projections on side walls (creepy trees, white, chase control)
    1 Pattern projection at end of galleries (rotating spiral, turquoise)

    Gels and hoods existing florescent lights

    Uplighting on Optrix wall behind stage (color scroll)
    Pendant lights hanging low above bar top (Geometric bronze cage & bulb, bronze 15×14)
